Could, Would, and Should

सबसे पहले तो ये जानना ज़रूरी है कि इनका use तीनों कालों में होता है। लेकिन सभी कालों में इनके काम अलग-अलग होते हैं।

अब एक-एक करके आप तीनों के बारे में बहुत ही आसानी से सीखेंगे इसलिए धैर्य के साथ इस पोस्ट को पूरा पढ़िए, यहाँ से आप बहुत कुछ सीखेंगे। 

Could do = कर सकता था (सामर्थ्य)

would do = करूँगा

should do = करना चाहिए 

Could is used (Could का use होता है):

1.   For ABILITY in the PAST (भूतकाल की योग्यता के लिए)

जब मैं छोटी थी, मैं बहुत अच्छा नृत्य कर सकती थी। अब, मैं नहीं कर सकती।

(Jab main chhotee thee, main bahut achchha nritya kar sakatee thee. Ab, main nahin kar sakatee.)

When I was little, I could dance very well. Now, I can’t.

 

दो साल पहले, मैं बहुत अच्छी तरह से अंग्रेजी नहीं बोल सकता था, लेकिन अब मैं बोल सकता हूँ।

(Do saal pahale, main bahut achchhee tarah se angreji nahin bol sakata tha, lekin ab main bol sakata hoon.)

Two years ago, I couldn’t speak English very well, but now I can.

 

2.   For POSSIBILITIES in the PRESENT and FUTURE (वर्तमान और भविष्य में सम्भावना के लिए)

वह रसोई में हो सकती है।

(Vah rasoee mein ho sakti hai.)

She could be in the kitchen. (= Maybe she is in the kitchen.)

 

मीरा सोमवार को हमसे मिलने सकती है।

(Meera somvaar ko hamse milne aa sakti hai.)

Meera could visit us on Monday. (= Maybe Meera will visit on Monday.)

 

कुछ भी हो सकता है।

(Kuchh bhi ho sakta hai.)

Anything could happen.

 

3.   To make POLITE REQUESTS (विनम्र निवेदन करने के लिए)

We use “could you…” as a polite way of telling or asking someone to do something

क्या आप कृपया इसे एक मिनट के लिए पकड़ सकते हैं?

(Kya aap kripaya ise ek minat ke liye pakad sakte hain?)

Could you please hold this for a minute?

 

क्या आप मेरा एक काम कर सकते हैं?

(Kya aap mera ek kaam kar sakte hain?)

Could you do me a favor, please?

 

4.   In REPORTED SPEECH

उसने कहा कि वह नृत्य कर सकती है।

(Usne kaha ki vah nritya kar sakti hai.)

She said that she could dance.

 

उसने कहा कि वह चल नहीं सकता।

(Usne kaha ki vah nahin chal sakta.)

He said that he couldn’t walk.

 

 

Would is used (Would का use होता है):

1.   For REPEATED ACTIONS in the PAST (भूतकाल में बार-बार किये गए कार्यों के लिए)

किया करता था

जब मैं छोटी थी, तो मैं अक्सर अपने नानी के घर जाती थी।

(Jab main chhoti thi, to main aksar apne nani ke ghar jati thi.)

When I was little, I would often go to my granny’s house.

 

दो साल पहले, मैं रोजाना 4 घंटे अंग्रेजी पढ़ती थी। लेकिन अब, मैं नहीं पढ़ती।

(Do saal pahle, main rojaana 4 ghante angreji padhti thi. Lekin ab, main nahin padhti.)

Two years ago, I would study English 4 hours a day. But now, I don’t.

 

2.   To talk about IMAGINARY SITUATION (काल्पनिक परिस्थितियों के बारे में बात करने के लिए)

कर देता / कर दूँगा

अगर मैं तुम होता, तो मैं बहुत बदलाव करता।

(Agar main tum hota, to main bahut badlaav karta.)

If I were you, I would make a lot of changes.

 

अगर वह मुझे आमंत्रित करेगी तो मैं उसकी पार्टी में जाऊँगा।

(Agar vah mujhe aamantrit karegi to main uski party mein jaunga.)

I would go to her party if she invited me.

 

अगर मैंने मेरे पिता की बात सुनी होती तो मैं मुसीबत में नहीं होती।

(Agar maine mere pita ki baat suni hoti to main musibat me nahi hoti.)

If I had listened to my father, I wouldn’t be in trouble.

 

अगर आप बहुत सारा पैसा जीत गए तो आप क्या करेंगे?

(Agar aap bahut sara paisa jeet gaye to aap kya karenge?)

What would you do if you won a lot of money?

 

3.   To make POLITE REQUESTS, OFFERS and INVITATIONS

क्या आप नमक पास करेंगे, कृपया?

(Kya aap namak paas karenge, kripaya?)

Would you pass the salt, please?

 

क्या तुम खिड़की खोल दोगे?

(Kya tum khidaki khol doge?)

Would you mind opening the window?

 

क्या आप कुछ पीना पसंद करेंगे?

(Kya aap kuchh pina pasand karenge?)

Would you like anything to drink?

 

आप चाय लेंगे या कॉफ़ी?

(Aap chaay lenge ya coffee?)

Would you like tea or coffee?

 

क्या आप रात का खाना हमारे साथ खाना चाहेंगे?

(Kya aap raat ka khaana hamare sath khana chaahenge?

Would you like to join us for the dinner?

 

4.   In REPORTED SPEECH (Future in the Past)

उसने कहा कि वह डांस करेगी।

(Usne kaha ki vah dance karegi.)

She said that she would dance.

 

मुझे पता था कि वह जीतेगा।

(Mujhe pata tha ki vah jeetega.)

I knew he would win.

 

मुझे लगा कि वह कभी नहीं आएगा।

(Mujhe laga ki vah kabhi nahin aayega.)

I thought he would never come.

 

Should is used (Should का use होता है): करना चाहिए के अर्थ में

1.   To give or to ask for ADVICE (सलाह देने या माँगने के लिए)

आपको कड़ी मेहनत करनी चाहिए।

(Aapko kadi mehnat karni chahiye.)

You should work hard.

 

क्या आपको लगता है कि मुझे उसे फोन करना चाहिए?

(Kya aapko lagta hai ki mujhe use phone karna chahiye?)

Do you think I should phone her?

 

उन्हें अपना समय नहीं बर्बाद करना चाहिए।

(Unhe apna samay barbaad nahi karna chahiye.)

They shouldn’t waste their time.
