WHAT ARE CAUSATIVE VERBS?
Causative verbs are let, make, have,
get, and help. As the name suggests, they cause something else to happen. (करना नहीं
करवाना)

LET = To PERMIT/ALLOW SOMETHING TO

Structure:
Ø LET + PERSON/THING + VERB (base form)
Examples:
§ Let Rohan play.
§ I don’t let my sister watch TV.
§ Will your parents let you go to the party?
§ I can’t come out tonight – my dad won’t let me.
§ Mom, brother is not letting me study.
§ Don’t let the note fall.
§ Let the chapatis cool down before you eat them.
Tip: The past tense of let is also
let.
Example:
§ John let me drive his new car.
Note: The verbs allow and permit are
more formal ways to say “let”. Permit is
more formal than allow. Allow is more formal than let. However, with allow and
permit, we use to + verb:

MAKE = To Force or Require Someone To
Do Something (करवाना/ करने के लिए बाध्य करना)

Ø MAKE + PERSON + VERB (base form)
Examples:
§ He made me do all the work.
§ My parents made me pay back all the money.
§ I seized his arm and made him turn to look at me.
§ The teacher made the sudents stay in after school

Examples of structure #1:
§ I’ll just have my
assistant get us some coffee. (मैं अभी मेरी Assistant से कॉफी मँगवाता
हूँ।)

§ She’s having the kids clean the

Examples of structure #2:
§ I’m having my house painted this

Tip: In informal speech, we often use get in these cases:
§ I’m getting my house painted this
week.

Examples:

HELP = Assist Someone In Doing

Ø HELP + PERSON + VERB (base form)
Ø HELP + PERSON + TO + VERB (base form)
After “help,” you can use “to-infinitive”
or “infinitive without to” – both ways are correct.

§ I helped her carry the bag.
